I am pleased to announce that the first forum post notification system has been scraped and replaced by a more robust and flexible system.
I was unhappy with the original notification system for two primary reasons. First, you received an email each time a thread you watched was posted on. That might not be a big deal right now, but I do hope TheCursed.org will grow a bit bigger. I did not like the idea of your inbox being flooded with new post announcements. Second, there was no flexibility in what you could watch. All you could monitor was forum posts. You could not keep track of an individual poster or other content on the site.
The new notification system does all of the above and more. Read on for a brief tutorial.
In the forums themselves, there are now three options located at the bottom of the top post. They are Subscribe to this Post, To posts of type Forum Topic and To posts by a Particular User. Select the subscription you wish and you will be asked how often and how you wish to be notified.
A few points on the options you are presented with. If you choose 'As soon as possible' for 'Send interval,' you will receive an email each time a new post is done. By selecting any other interval, you will get a digest email summarizing all new posts within that time frame. If you select 'Privatemsg' for your 'Send method,' you will not see any emails. You will be notified via the Private Message system only, no email will be sent to you.
Once you are happy with your selections, click 'Subscribe' and you will be taken back to the thread. The Subscribe to link will now read unsubscribe. Nuff said?
This also applies to the newly re-opened Metamor City Public Library.
From your Account Settings page, you can modify all of your existing subscriptions. On the 'Notifications' tab you can change or unsubscribe any of your current subscriptions. For example, say you originally set the send interval on a particular thread to as soon as possible, and are now getting twenty emails a day from that one thread. You can change that to daily on the notifications tab.
